Theme 5: Building Climate Resiliency

This theme focuses on building climate-resilient energy systems that can withstand the impacts of climate change. It will explore the importance of adaptation measures for climate changes.

This theme focuses on building climate-resilient ecosystems that can withstand the impacts of climate change. It will explore the importance of climate adaptation measures.  

Keynote Speaker: Prof. Eiichi Nakakita, Director, Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University

DPRI, Kyoto University will share the Japan experience on industrial and urban planning strategies toward building climate resilience. The talk will explore the integration of adaptation measures into planning processes in developing climate- resilient energy systems and urban landscapes capable of withstanding the impacts of climate change.  

 

Speaker 1Associate Professor Dr. Liew Ju Neng, Department of Earth Sciences and Environment, Faculty of Science and Technology, UKM

The talk will provide insights into projecting future climate data to assess the impact of climate change. It will focus on the significance of accurate data for understanding climate risks, informing adaptation strategies, building climate-resilient systems to enable effective response and mitigation measures.

 

Speaker 2: Ir. Mohd Zaki Mat Amin, Director General, National Water Research Institute, Malaysia

Discover the climate change adaptation framework and strategy for building resilient water systems. Explore the importance of proactive measures, innovative strategies, and integrated planning to adapt to climate change, ensuring ecosystem resilience and sustainability in the face of evolving climate challenges.

Speaker 3: Dato’ Ir. Sabri Abdul Mulok, Deputy Director General, Business Sector, Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) 

DID will present the needs and challenges of adaptation against climate change and explore the significance of implementing effective adaptation measures to climate resiliency, ensuring the sustainability and resilience of infrastructure, ecosystems, and communities in the face of climate-related impacts.
