Boonrod Yaowapruek

Mr. Boonrod Yaowapruek is a climate finance specialist with over 20 years of professional experience serving in various technical and managerial capacities in the clean energy and environmental sectors. He currently serves as a director at Creagy, a boutique advisory firm specialized in the climate finance that brings innovative sustainable energy & financing solutions across Asia. He is serving an instructor of the Climate Change course at Chulalongkorn School of Integrated Innovation (ScII), an Evaluation Ambassador at Energy Evaluation Asia-Pacific (EEAP), a board member at Energy Evaluation and a board member of Thailand Carbon Neutral Network (TCNN). He is leading the team to design the Climate Change Master Plan for Bangkok and other major cities in Thailand. He is advising policy makers to design economic and financial instruments to stimulate climate investment in the region.

Previously, Boonrod was an investment mobilization lead at USAID Clean Power Asia program, a multi-million dollar effort over five years to increase the supply of grid-connected renewable energy on the lower mekong countries (i.e. Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos). Prior to that he served as clean energy finance team leader and Thailand country manager for USAID’s regional Private Financing Advisory Network-Asia (PFAN) program where he assisted businesses, governments and other cooperating partners across the Asia region to mobilize and scale up investments in clean energy, particularly in SE-Asia countries. On the USAID PFAN-Asia program, Mr. Yaowapruek employed a market led approach to support project developers in raising private equity & debt to finance renewable energy projects. He conducted stakeholder consultations with public & private sectors in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Bangladesh to analyze the gaps and then design a strategy for each country to increase clean energy financing mobilization. Prior to USAID’s, Boonrod served as a senior business developer at Engie Asia (previously GDF SUEZ Energy Asia), based in Bangkok where he led to identify and structure clean energy and low carbon energy projects in Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, China, and India. Boonrod was also served as a commercial analyst&Struturer at the carbon desk at Eneco Energy Trade and sustainable risk advisor at ABN AMRO Bank in the Netherlands.

Boonrod received B.ENG. from Chulalongkorn University and an M.Sc in Sustainable Energy Engineering from Royal Institute of Technology(KTH). He is also an alumnus from Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship (SSES), a scholar from the Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership and the CFA level II candidate.
